I’m a big Stanford fan, so I had to vote for Gerhart. I feel a little guilty picking a running back, since I find it so irritating that an award allegedly awarded to the best player in college football has ignored the defensive side of the ball for pretty much its entire history.
I hate Noter Dame but Tate is a hell of a player. he is doing well with a rather average team.
I think it might be Colt McCoy’s year - but only because he has Jordan Shipley to throw to.
Aaaaaand Archie Griffin fans in Columbus and elsewhere breathe a sigh of relief.
Ingram brought home the bacon today. 3 rushing TDs against Florida’s defense, long pass reception, over 100 rushing yards. I say he gets the trophy.
McCoy or Ingram now I think.
I personally expect Colt to win it - he should be impressive tonight.
I agree he put on a hell of a performance. Amazing to watch him over and over punch through that line. But I still think unless McCoy craps himself tonight I still think it’s his.
My money is still on Gerhart.
Marty Gilyard.
Why should Tebow have won last year?
Tebow: For the season, he threw for 2,515 yards and 28 touchdowns.
Bradford: 4,464 passing yards, 48 touchdowns.
Bradford led an offense that scored 60 or more points in five straight games and scored 97 touchdowns (a record)
Tebow didn’t even put up the numbers he did in 2007. Tebow’s a great player, who is leaving a legacy at Florida, but there’s NO WAY he should have won the Heisman last year.
I don’t get why Tebow is such a media darling. God, the press love him so much its sickening.
Ndamukong Suh has three sacks of Colt McCoy in the first half.
It’s because he plays with heart on his sleeve and has a very clean cut public image, religious, etc. That doesn’t stop people from joining in the fun though: “Tim Tebow Crying Like A Bitch”
That may be true, but Tebow is still singled out. He’s not the only player where that could be said about.
Drawn mostly from Wikipedia, Colt McCoy participated in a church youth group since as a kid. He landscapes yards for the elderly, visits nursing homes, helps with meals on wheels. According to Wikipedia fellow quarterback Tim Tebow said of McCoy, “I was really proud of him because I think he represents college football and his faith extremely well, too, which I really respect as well. I think he’s done a good job with everything he’s going through.” (What he’s going through I have no idea)
Supposedly in May 29, 2006, Colt McCoy swam 300 yards across a lake to help save the life of Ken Herrington who was having a seizure on a small dock that extended into the privately owned lake.
He visits the Austin’s Children’s Hospital and volunteers at the Children’s Miracle Network telethon. Since 2004 (again, according to Wikipedia) he has also spent three days a week reading to elementary school children and tutoring underprivileged children.
I know Sam Bradford is active in his church. He’s helped out with Habitat for Humanity. Both Bradford and McCoy are supposed to be really nice humble guys.
Again, it seems by all accounts that Tebow is a all around good guy. But in my small example above, so I think that they play with ‘their heart on their sleeve’. Heck, Bradford could have gone pro last year, and he said basically said “My whole life I’ve only dreamed of playing for the Sooners.”
By the way, I live in SEC country, not big XII.
Well If McCoy wins he can thank instant replay, because that was an incredibly bad play on his part at the end.
CJ Spiller making a helluva a case tonight. But it looks like the Heisman is going to Palo Alto.
I think this Heisman vote will be very close from 1-6. Maybe the closest in history. Because there isn;t any obvious frontrunners. Spiller was incredible tonight and he should move into contention. I wonder if they invite more than 3 players to NYC this coming weekend.
Tebow and McCoy didn’t not do themselves any favors tonight. But they got the reputation.
If I had a vote, I think it would be Ingram (#1), Gerhart (#2), and Suh (#3). But I honestly how I can leave off Spiller, Tebow and McCoy.
Game in game out over the long haul I’d give it to McCoy. But alas it’s a seasonal trophy not a career trophy. I hoping Bradford was going to put up numbers like last year.
I don’t know how anyone who saw that game tonight could vote for anyone but Suh. He dominated Texas.
You could say the same about Ingram. Frankly, I think it’s highly unlikely that Suh will get it despite his awesome performance today. I can only really recall one defensive player to ever get it, Charles Woodson.
Suh looked great, but he wasn’t on enough voters’ radar screens coming into today.
I still believe that there were only 3 real contenders coming into today, and only 1 of those contenders had a good day. McCoy was lousy, and Tebow was sub-par.
I’ll bet Ingram now wins handily.
Weel Apprently we aren’t idiots, the five finalists are the same as our top five: McCoy, Tebow, Ingram, Suh, and Gerhart.
I think there could be some very strategic voting going on. It is going to be close: Gerhart wins the West, Ingram wins the South, McCoy wins the Southwest and then I have no idea. The Mid-Atlantic poosibly goes to Tebow, but not by a lot, Midwest I see a Gerhart/McCoy split and the Northeast will be…ummm…
