Helium

In the 20s-40s (maybe later)the US had all the world’s supply of helium, according to an article I read years ago. The reason for the Hindenburg disaster.as well as others,I guess, was because of the US monopoly.Germany had to use hydrogen-highly flammable.

My question-how did the US get a monopoly, since from what I read, you get helium from gas or oilwells somehow. How can one country have all the available element on the planet?

Are we really God’s chosen people and he lets us have helium to speak in squeeky voices for a bonus?

Helium for mass production is extracted from natural gas. The most helium rich areas are Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Poland, Russia and Algeria. The vast majority of the world’s supply comes from the United States.

The BOC Group is the world’s largest industrial supplier of helium, operating 46 helium transfills worldwide. It extracts its helium from 14 different natural gas plants.

Hydrogen is lighter than helium too
