Hello, Baltimore! (Great Moi News + Request)

So, it’s this close to certain that I’ll be spending my summer as an intern at the Baltimore Museum of Art!
moi does a little happy dance

This is a supergreat opportunity for me, and I’m excited as all get out!

Now for the rough news: Take a look at my location.

I’ve got to pack up some worldly belongings and get myself to Baltimore for the first or second week of June. And, firstly, find myself some housing.

While I’m not looking for anyone to put up a zany art student on their couch for three months, I was hoping Baltimore locals might be able to offer me some advice about finding some impossible housing (short lease, even shorter notice and cheap).

Or just join me in the happy dance. Or recommend some great things to see/do in Baltimore (other than BMA, AVAM and the Aquarium; I’ve got the museum thing covered! ;)).

Thank you, most wonderful Dopers!

Johns Hopkins students. Right near the BMA, often only want to sublet their apartments for the summer. Unfortunately, most of 'em advertise for subletters solely with flyers around campus. When I go out today to bug the bank about changing my address, I can see if there are still any ads up.

Actually… just remembered. Check out http://jhu.dailyjolt.com/housing/ - Hopkins students advertising their sublets and asking about sublets. You should get on it quickly, though, finals are ending.

sniff No more moi in Philly? :frowning: I’m so sad.

Good luck to ya, girl. Enjoy the harbor and the funny accents and that other stuff. You could try to see a baseball game at Camden Yards. While the game might not be very exciting the building is a bit of a historic landmark.

I will be in Baltimore towards the end of June so we may be able to make a lunch/dinner/drinks date then.

elfbabe, thanks a lot for that link. I’m looking up addresses for some of those apts. and locating them in proximity to BMA.

Wow, Frank, my own miniDope. I’ll keep in touch and find out what your plans are later into June.

Ride the Water Taxi (the blue ones) and look for Capt. Steve - he’s posted once or twice as Fairychatdad. Our daughter is hoping to get a job as a Mate for the same water taxi company, starting right after Memorial Day. And I’ll be in town around 4th of July for a week. So mebbe we can connect while I’m there!

Can’t help you out with a place to stay, but you must visit Fell’s Point.

Pretty much anything inhabited by Hopkins students is close enough to campus to allow walking, and the BMA is literally RIGHT next to campus on the south side. It’d be a LONG walk for some of the apartments, true, as many of them are on the north end of campus, but still doable in the summer. If you have a bike to bring there wouldn’t be a problem at all, and you’d actually be able to use the Hopkins sidewalks/paths rather than the roads most of the time.

If you want more information, look at this page. The apartments being advertised are the white buildings at the top of the map, and I think the BMA is the white building below and to the right of #39, at the bottom. (If that’s not it, then it’s just off the edge of the map) For an idea of scale, I can make it from #8 to #37 in ten minutes if I walk really quickly.

I haven’t been on a water taxi yet. Yeah! Even more exciting, it would be great to meet you, FCM!

More heaping praise: elfbabe, if you’re going to be in town this summer, I’ll buy you a pitcher or a latte, whatever’s your speed.
Your posts have been truly helpful. MUCHO thanks to you!

Congratulations, moi! Baltimore is closer to me than Philly, being a little over an hour from my door. Let me know when Frank #2 is coming down and we can do a mini dope in Fells Point!

I should have thought of these earlier :wally:

I appreciate it, Moi, but I’m going to be home for the summer.

Got back from Baltimore earlier this evening. Museum was outstanding, really impressive.

Better yet was my interview. Perfect combination of me being thrilled about all the opportunities they’re offering me and them (seemingly) being thrilled at my skills and and enthusiasm.

Long story short: I’m in!

This is truly, truly marvelous news for me and going to be a kick-ass opportunity. I can’t wait. Heck, I don’t have to wait long–I start June 2nd!

:D:D:DCongratulations:D:D:D

You’re now a MAD ( Mid Atlantic Doper )

Be warned, there is no going back!

Other than that, anything Ginger or I can do to help or make you welcome, please ask, we’ll be there will bells on! ( Not actual bells, but the presence of the sexiest woman alive and Nature’s Greatest Miracle should blind you to that. :stuck_out_tongue: )
Welcome to Bawlmer, hon!

Thankyouthankyouthankyou, danceswithcats and Weirddave!

I would normally point and tell you your ego is showing, Dave, but my experience is that it must be something they pump out into that downtown air in Baltimore. I walked into my interview clearly knowing I was The Best Museum Studies Student Ev-ah[sup]TM[/sup].
