Hello? No Chavez pit?

The golfer with the sulfur
gives the nostrum from the rostrum?
I think he was out of line. I don’t think George Bush is the devil. And whatever else Hugo Chavez might think of this country, he should recognize that we give him, and the rest of the world, a safe place to come together and make these speeches.

But I am not afraid of his words. He is not my leader, he does not represent me. He does not speak for me, and so I do not feel the need to take him to task when he says things I disagree with. His first responsibility is to the people of Venezuela, and they will suffer from the mistakes of his leadership more than our president being called a few names.

Meh, don’t take it personally bro. Someone walks up and slaps ya, is your business if you walk away.

I’ll get on board with this Pitting. Get bent, Chavez. If we want to elect the Devil, that’s our damn business, not yours. That’s because we’re a democracy. Sometimes we elect Harry Truman, and sometimes we elect Satan. Deal with it. Don’t come crying to the UN about how your delicate Catholic sensibilities are offended that the United States has publically embraced the Father of Lies. He may be the Archfiend, but he’s our Archfiend, and we don’t take kindly to foreigners slandering his infernal rule. What business is it of yours if our government carries out the diabolical whims of a murderous demogorgon? America has no time for your whiny “get thee behind me” crap.

Um, yeah, that’s kinda the point dick, he’s a conservative, you didn’t vote for him, so what? He’s still our president, fuckstick, if you can’t tell the difference between someone you voted against and the endall evilwad, then move to goddamn Venezuela and starve.

What, exactly, are so many of you so riled-up about? Not like your President doesn’t go around insulting other nation’s leaders, or better yet, invade on or two of them, causing an untold number of death and overall havock for no reason at all? And yet you’re surprised and indignant to find out Chavez has waaay more supporters worldwide than your own wannabe cowboy?

Try reading his whole speech. I’d love to see what he said that’s he’s got your panties in such a bunch.

Other than the much needed Truth about Bush and the current estate of the US that is. 'cause if you’d like to use that for an “argument,” you’ve already lost. Plenty more people agree with Chavez than they do with your own version of a Christian Attila.

Since we’re in The Pit, you may look for cites for your own fucking selves. Might even help with your delusions. Or not.

Don’t much care for jingoistic asswipes.

Have a great evening.

I didn’t catch Shrub’s speech, so I’m not in a position to say. Aside from the histrionics about mythological archetypes, how does the substance of Chavez’s speech stand up to scrutiny?

For example, is it grossly unfair to characterize Bush’s speech as having been delivered “as if he owned the world”?

I haven’t seen Venezuela invade anyone lately? Papa Bush invaded Panama. Baby Bush invaded Iraq. Very privileged people killing innocents to protect their privileges. Who’s exactly evil here?

Ermm…think you could avoid answering Squink’s query in a more subtle matter?

Personally, I doubt it – but don’t despair, you come off as a great Troglodyte. A natural actually.

Ought to take a trip West if you haven’t already. Hell, I’ll even play your agent and grunt once and again.

Think of the possibilities – you may become Dubya’s favorite character! Simple does it and you’ve already got that part down pat.

Should you survive nuclear warfare, I see great things in your future. Well, I’ll imagine them. Don’t hold much hope for myself when The Big Blast comes.

Which reminds me, how’s the bunker coming along? Must be doing well, seeing as you’re already living in it.

Hint in case you need one: stock-up on American flags, just in case you need to indoctrinate the few hundred survivors, sure would be a handy item to have around. Then again, I hear it also makes for a cozy fire…

TTFN.

Judge for yourself if time permits:

Text of Chavez speech at U.N. where Venezuelan dictator calls Bush ‘the devil’

Can we get at least a year posted for each of the invasions you mention? How many invasions of Panama were there?

As to Chavez? It’s rather accepted among those of us that can spot glaring douchebaggedness (sorry Red Fury, we’re still working on your recovery plan), for what it is when it’s a rather insignificant player making noise to get noticed. The thing is, he is getting noticed with all the ink. Every issue of Newsweek for the past few 2 or 3 months has something on him. It’s not that he’s important, really, it’s that he has name recognition as someone that hates America.

Yeah, yeah, he talks about loving Americans and hating only the current administration. Meanwhile colluding, supporting and promoting countries that have hated us long before 2000. Based on his affiliations we must come to one of two assumptions.

  1. He actually hates America and will do whatever he can to destroy it.

  2. He’s a pure hearted populist that will somehow woo Iran into loving us by February 2009 if we just straighten up and elect the right people. Because he loves us and wants the best for us.
Of course, there’s always the wild card. By touting an alliance with Cuba to stand up to the US he’s showing a serious lack of mental health care in Venezuela. proving he’s just batshit insane.

As an aside, anyone know that quality of life stats for that paradise? Honest question.

Move to Venezuela? And wait for Old Scratch to take revenge on Chavez for dissing him at the UN? Not on your life. I’d much rather stay here in the United States than wake up in a country that’s been bombed into oblivion for no good reason. That’s the sort of thing Beelzebub does, you know, being the embodiment of pure evil and all.

And I must say that I resent the suggestion that I can’t tell the difference between someone I voted against and “the endall evilwad.” I also voted against Ralph Nader, whom I regard as rather less evil than the hellbeast occupying the White House. Although he does smell of patchouli oil, which I personally find nearly as objectionable an odor as sulfur.

I can’t help but notice that you yourself called Jimmy Carter a peckerwood, when he clearly isn’t one. If you can’t tell the difference between someone you loathe and a migratory bird, then maybe you should leave America and move where you’re less likely to confuse the two, like the island of Mauritius or something.

There’s no Pit thread (or at least there wasn’t) because of the DNFTT guideline.

IIRC, there was a poster a while back, truly of a Fundamentalist bent, who elevated Chick’s tract to near the status–oh, hey, why mince words–to practically replace Scripture and defended Chick.

Jimmy’s a cracker. I’m a peckerwood. Neither are birds.

Revenant Threshold: search for “Chick Tract” and “Gladys” and you’ll find a thread with a Chick supporter.

And who would these people be? I mean, Bush was elected twice. I think your douchebag detector needs repair.

Oh, Christ. No one has walked up and slapped me, or you for that matter, you insufferable adolescent twit. What fucking difference does if make whether or not there is a thread on this board about one specific speech given at the UN? Where do get the idea that the primary purpose of this board is to launch threads on every minor political issue that you personally feel requires comment?

So, enlighten us, genius. You’ve got the floor. What steps should be taken in response to Chavez’ speech? Here, I’ll give you some choices:

  1. Treat it as a bunch of grandstanding rhetoric from a wannabe world player with little or no capacity to materially affect US interests

  2. Cut off all diplomatic and/or economic relations with Venezuela

  3. Arrest Mr. Chavez as soon as he steps out of the UN, for, I don’t know, sedition or something. After all, we don’t have coded in our Constitution anything about freedom of speech, especially for tin-pot Latin American strongmen, and its not like heads of state at a world diplomatic gathering would have anything like, you know, immunity from prosecution for saying things that someone in the host country might not like.

Oh, wait, apparently he’s already gone back to Venezuela anyway. Guess we missed our chance.

  1. Launch an invasion to bring “democracy” to Venezuela (that’s been a fairly popular tactic for us of late)

  2. Have Mr. Chavez assassinated (old-school, I know, but it’s been a popular way for us to attempt to manipulate Latin American politics for decades)

  3. Whine about what a big meany Mr. Chavez is on an Internet message board, that, sorry to say, he is highly unlikely to ever visit.

Personally, I’ll choose 1). You do what you want.

  1. Review the post so I don’t have 5) listed twice (sigh).

And who would these people be? I mean, Bush was elected twice. I think your douchebag detector needs repair.

Ummm…the members of the Straight Dope Message Board, to whom you addressed the question in the title of your thread?

Yah. Well, you’ve seen him speak in public–he comes across like your average Rotarian being called upon to give the annual “Community Service” report. Any World Domination body-English was entirely in Chavez’ fevered imagination.

Well, as far as Infant Mortality stats go, they’re ranked at 104th, exactly in the middle. Worse than Colombia, Mexico, and Panama, but better than Ecuador, and nowhere near Chile and Argentina.

FW that’s W.
