Help finding a medical aphorism

When I was in medical school, I remember skimming through a book of medical aphorisms.

I was trying to recall a particular quote recently, but I cannot find it anywhere on the internet. The sentiment being expressed was regarding the changing role of doctors and the necessity of a physician developing compassion - since people’s illnesses can be reflections of more than organic pathology.

I am 90% certain that the quote was attributed to Tinsley R Harrison. If it wasn’t him, it may have been William Osler (one of his major inspirations).

It was something similar to this:

“As the social ills of our civilization increase, people will increasingly turn to the physician for succor.”

Just throwing this out there on the off chance that someone will recognize it or have better google-fu than I…

Thanks!!
