My apologies for the vagueness of my description, which mirrors the vagueness of my memory. I’m looking for a scene, which may have been from an 80’s comedy, maybe a John Hughes one, and the actor may have been John Candy. In any case, there’s one of those wooden windmill decorations, the kind that’s powered by the rising heat of a candle. A guest in the house pokes at it and it collapses. Ring a bell for anybody? Bonus points if you can tell me the actual name of the candle fan thingy.
Christmas carousel or candle windmill. A particular variety is called angel chimes.
We have a small brass one with flying angels ringing bells.
I’m working on the movie.
I haven’t seen the movie but we’ve got one of those doohickeys. Never knew what to call it but it’s really cool.
Could it have been Randy Quaid, in National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation?
We always called them angel chimes, and ours were smaller and made of brass. Although friends families had the bigger wooden ones, so they weren’t strange.
That’s it! Thank you all!
And Quaid even mentions your username!
Ha! Didn’t even catch that!
