For some reason I have been misspelling and substituting the wrong words for the last few days. Usually it’s in email, and even though I read them several times before sending, I’ve been noticing glaring errors the second they’re gone. It’s not the usual their/they’re/there kind of screw ups either. Just today I wrote “seen” instead of “scene” when discussing a TV show.
I also misspelled retarded this morning. Which was really bad because it was in the context of “What are you, retarded?” in a two line email, which I was too smart to spell check. Now I know F7 is my friend and all, but this is getting ridiculous, and grammar check won’t help with my switched vocabulary words either.
Is there a pill I can take for this, or do I have to go back to 7th grade and start over?
How ironic it is that, in the same post in which you talk about misspelling words, you correctly spell “misspell,” which is one of the more frequently misspelled words.
Yeah, I agree with Snoopy on this one. One of our new QA guys at work is a bit of a prick (okay, so he’s blunt and there’s a difference, but still) so I felt obligated to point out that he misspelled “miss-spell” on the QA report. sigh I’m so petty sometimes…
I must confess that I wrote the whole thing in Word and then spell checked it before posting. It caught two superfluous usages of ‘and’. I’m usually a good speller, and have the trophies from grade school to prove it. It’s the word switches that are killing me. I did it again with “here” and “hear” this afternoon.
Thanks for the advice.
Zenster - I already do crosswords, in ink, with no problems.
JimB - Emailing myself is a good idea, I may try that one.
I like the way you think Colin. Have another one for me.
