My doctor has put me on Paxil for sleep disorder and social anxiety…but it has rendered me lame. I can still achieve and maintain erections, it’s just the final step that isn;t working…does anyone have any helpful ideas? Any OTC herbs that will help me achin’ testicles?
How long have you been on it? I too take a version of Paxil, and I found that after about a week or so I nature took its course and I had to ejaculate.
I know someone who takes Paxil and says it just takes longer, about an hour sometimes, before ej******ion takes place. This person reports that visualization helps. However, in any case, be sure to consult your family physician or specialist.
Even OTC drugs and herbs could have an adverse reaction take with Paxil (or any other drug), don’t take any without consulting the doc.
Can’t you just give the doc a call and tell him your problem?
There’s other anti-anxiety drugs out there, maybe one will be as effective and not prevent you from launchin’ the rocket.
It’s a common side-effect, not only with Paxil, but with other drugs in it’s class. If you’ve only been on it for 2 months or less, I’d say just give it more time. If it’s been over 8 weeks, talk with your doc about changing the dosage or switching to another med. Sometimes its just a matter of your body getting habituated to the drug, and most of the side-effects become minimized. If the medication is working for you for your other symptoms, I definitely would not add dietary supplements or herbs to the mix at this time. Also, Viagra won’t help this side-effect.

And all the women who are reading this thread are going, “So? This is a problem?”

Love it, Ducky. However, there is always an
Upside to such things…
… and a Historically Amusing Angle<Smirk> to things.

Some friends of mine are on Paxil, some on Prozac, a few on Zoloft and a couple on imprimine with lithium. All report that same effect. Some, after being on the drug for a few weeks, regained ejaculatory function, but it took much more stimulation. Some found that when taking the drug, they had to struggle to get an erection and any distraction could cause them to loose it.
The pamphlets that around 1 or 2% of the males are affected sexually when taking these drugs. They lie! Something like 30 to 40% seems to be more realistic. For women, 5%, which works out to a whopping 80% in real life.
Lying sons of breeches!
Viagra might help with sustaining an erection, which will enable you to relax more and potentially climax. Uh, don’t look forward to those Earth shattering ‘cums’ for a while, but you will splooge. Now, if your doctor approves, which I doubt, a little booze will help. (Nothing like beer f**ks.) Check with the doc first because booze can interact with Paxil – and all of the others.
More foreplay will help, maybe a toke or two (I did not say that), and an understanding, erotic, patient girl friend. (HA! — HA! again. Like they exist!) Um, you might discover that after a month or two, you get, uh, turned on by sexual acts you rarely considered – ranging from anal, to hard, wild sex, to dress up to kinky. Several friends of mine have mentioned this.
You can add vitamins to your diet, like B-100, B-12, B-6, B-1, potassium and magnesium. Some say E also.
Now, what type of sleep disorder? Are you seeing a shrink or regular doc? You might check into the use of Xanax, low dosage, for treating the same condition with much, much less prick effects. If you’re seeing a regular doctor, then I suggest seeing a shrink.
Why? Because doctors are excellent in curing the body, but shrinks specialize in the mind and often know more than the regular doctor about mental treatments. They know the effects of various psychiatric medications and combinations of the same.
BTW, check with your doctor concerning potential help with your sexual dysfunction.
For the record, I’m not a doctor.
It was my understanding that the existence of something called “priapism” is nothing more than an Urban Legend fostered by Dead (in more ways than one) White European Males.
[note: if you read this post with your Sarcasm Detector turned on, it’ll be funnier, trust me]
<------Laughing VERY hard here. So…maybe the same White Eurpean Males who wrote those medical threads I linked to? A-HAH ! Conspiracy City !
