Just a WAG, but is this Simon and Garfunkel? The lyrics are something like:

“She’ll talk to you when no one else’s around…”

Ok, that could be really wrong, but it is my best guess

Well I googled and found a band called Kings of Convenience. The song is Toxic Girl. Seems to be on the Shallow Hal Soundtrack too.

Kings of Convenience are an up-and-coming Norwegian band. Erland Øye, who I believe is the lead singer, also provides vocals for other groups, such as the chill-out duo Röyksopp.
