Help ID this mystery jack

A mystery jack was found in the wall of my house (built in 1928) above the baseboard. The front appears to be an approximately 1/4" diameter input jack; the back is porcelain. Two cloth clad wires were connected to it: one connected to the back of a metal single gang electrical box (I believe this was used as a ground); the other wire goes up towards the ceiling/roof (this one has no power running through it and I do not know where it terminates). It was covered with a single hole plate like you would use for a coaxial cable. Here are some pictures:

Possibilities:

  1. old telephone jack
  2. old antenna jack
  3. old cable TV jack (<– highly unlikely)
  4. something else

Has anyone ever seen anything like this?

Wild guess, but it looks like an antenna jack from the golden age of radio.

Maybe an antenna connection for Ham Radio?

an antenna jack for AM radio receiver would be my thought. FM and TV antenna jacks were different.

Looks like a 1920s style antenna death jack is correct.

Good work guys, especially ZenBeam for the pic.
