I’m trying to track down a song that popped into my head today that I recall it being used as the TV theme song for PGA golf coverage in the early 1980’s. It was an instrumental with soaring strings and sort of a light disco beat. I remember also hearing it on the radio a couple of times, so I think it was a “real” song and not composed as a TV theme.
I’ve done some Googling and it’s not The Masters theme, and I also found something that was used by CBS, but it’s not that either. Any ideas? Thanks.
Yes, that’s it! That gave me a flashback to Sunday afternoons when I was a kid. Thanks!
Was the CBS tune ELO’s, “Fire On High”?
I identified the string section of the St. Ives Theme by Lalo Schifrin as the early-80’s CBS golf theme song.
You got me dead to rights, doc; “Fire On High” was CBS Sports Spectacular’s theme in the mid-'70s.
1970s Jacqueline Bisset, mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!* :o
Is this becoming a “Best Instrumentals of the '70s” thread? :dubious:
A few years back, I was watching a documentary on The Mob in Las Vegas, and they showed a clip of a local (maybe CC) TV show about gambling. It drove me crazy trying to identify the theme music, until I stumbled onto it one day purely by accident. It was from this tune, and the relevant segment starts at 1:10.
