Help identify a band (not many clues)

I think they had one hit, and it might not have even been much of one.

They were lightish country-rock.

They were from the 70s.

They were from Ohio, central or south.

For some reason the words muddy, dirt, and road are coming to mind for either their song or their name. They are not the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, which is the name that keeps coming to mind. Nowhere near that famous.

Um, I got nothing. At this point, I’m certain no one can help me, but I’ve seen slightly weirder questions get answers.

Dayton, Ohio’s “Muddy River Band”, I think. I have no idea what their hit was, but the only reason I remember this one is 'cuz I grew up next door in Cincinnati.

Was that it? hopeful grin

Was the song Long Time Lovin’ You by McGuffey Lane? “McGuffey” sounds sort of like “muddy”, a lane is a type of road, the group was discovered on the Ohio State campus and named after a lane in Columbus…

Here’s the band’s site.

Unfortunately not. It’s probably going to be one of those things were the words I think are related are simply not related.

Thanks for trying, though!

Oh, you’re just freaking brilliant. Thank you so much.

(This site just blows me away.)

God, sternvogel. You must be into Cockney rhyming slang.
