For some reason the words muddy, dirt, and road are coming to mind for either their song or their name. They are not the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, which is the name that keeps coming to mind. Nowhere near that famous.

Dayton, Ohio’s “Muddy River Band”, I think. I have no idea what their hit was, but the only reason I remember this one is 'cuz I grew up next door in Cincinnati.
Was the song Long Time Lovin’ You by McGuffey Lane? “McGuffey” sounds sort of like “muddy”, a lane is a type of road, the group was discovered on the Ohio State campus and named after a lane in Columbus…
