I used to ask these kind of questions in the before time, in the long, long ago, when I was a Charter Member… the SDMB never let me down. Let’s try it again…
I have a vague memory of an old movie. Black and White. Maybe from the forties? Probably a comedy, probably not a musical. A family of immigrants has moved to a big US city, maybe New York. They run a family business making “box lunches”, pre-packed lunches for workmen. I vaguely recall the actual plot having something to do with the young son actually trying to make it big in the city, and the family supporting him.
What I REALLY remember is that an older man in the family, grandpa or uncle or something, hates the box lunch business, and says “the box lunch is to eating what the telephone book is to reading.”
Of course, my memory may be faulty on any given detail, but I remember that line! My google fu has failed. Any of this ring any bells with anyone?
Please and thank you,
