I stayed at a fancy hotel recently and noticed there is a difference between how the toilet flushes and my home toilet. When I flush at home, a big rush of water shoots down, sometimes splashing water up onto the seat. I can alter this behavior somewhat by slowly depressing the flush handle, which results in a more controlled flush.
At the hotel, if I press the handle all the way down, it slowly fills the bowl to flush, so there is never a splash. I can even sit on the seat and feel no splash whatsoever.
Is there a part that can be installed in a regular home toilet tank that emulates this behavior? I’ve been to the hardware store, but didn’t see anything like that.
Doubtful.
I suspect that the toilet in the hotel is designed with an enhanced syphon - you would never be able to fill the bowl at home that much - it would “self-flush”.
If I wanted to restrict my tank drain flow I would get myself a a piece of rod 4 ‘’ long and say about 1 inch in diameter (or simply a bolt) from the hardware stoire.
Then I would open the tank, flush and when the water got low enough I’d lift the valve all the way and drop the rod into the 2 inch diameter drain tube which is only about 5 inch deep.
If I wished to adjust the flow, I would change the diameter of the rod/bolt.
