Help me asnwer some English exam questions.

I’m currently reviewing for my board exam and one area i find difficult is English. English is just my second language and i often just go with the rule that whatever sounds better is correct. Help me answer some of these questions from my reviewer.

  1. All of the people at the conference are _____.
    Mathematics teacher or Mathematics teachers?

  2. Engineer Cuevas ordered _____ for the motor pool.
    two equipments
    two pieces of equipments
    two pieces of equipment

Find which of the following underlined words/phrases is wrong.

  1. From the airplane, the passengers were able to clearly see the outline of the whole island.

  2. The registrar has requested that each student and teacher sign their names on the grade sheet before submitting it.

  3. It is interesting to compare the early stylized art forms of ancient civilizations to the modern abstract forms of today.

  4. Since infections can cause fever as well as pain. it is a good idea to check his temperature.

  5. Neither the Mathematics department nor the Chemistry department at Union University requires that the student must write a thesis in order to graduate with a graduate diploma.

(Oh wait. Are split infinitives in fashion or out of fashion this week?)

I’m not sure, but this might qualify as homework. Do you have an English grammar book that might help you?

I agree there is nothing wrong with that one, but I assume they’re fishing for a split infinitive. Took me three takes to catch that. Ugh. I thought the stupid proscription against split infinitives has long been dead and buried.

ETA: I’m not sure what’s wrong with #3, either. #4 is also unclear to me (there is a misplaced period, which I assume should be a comma.) The “his” is missing an antecedent, but there’s nothing wrong with that. We don’t know the context of the sentence.
