I should preface this by saying that I’m in the UK.
I am currently using a Nokia 6310i. This phone has served me well for the past decade, but it is finally showing signs that it’s about to die. It’s definitely time to get something modern, despite the fact that everybody at uni seems to think it’s totally awesome.
But I’m not really in the market for a smartphone. I don’t need the internet on my phone, or at least - I’m not particularly willing to pay for it. I have a netbook for such needs, and I don’t feel like I need to be constantly on Facebook or anything.
I would like a camera, and I wouldn’t mind an mp3 player either. But the latter isn’t really all that important. Mainly I’m just going to be using it for texts, and the occasional call.
The main thing that’s baffling me at the moment is the way sim cards work. I am on a contract with my current phone with 02, £10 a month for unlimited texts and something like 600 minutes call time (plus free 02 to 02 calls), but I’ve never used that much. What I guess I’m wanting is to be able to transfer this contract/sim over. Is that recommended? It seems that every single phone I look at wants me to start a new contract, which doesn’t seem like the best idea to me. Obviously this means I’d have to get an 02 phone, or something that is unlocked, but then it all starts getting pretty confusing…
I also don’t want to break the bank, which I assumed wouldn’t be hard to avoid, since I’m not asking for much. But extras seem to be forced on you left right and center!
I’m currently thinking about this model: http://shop.nokia.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/productdetail_10512_10102_-11_20000367
But it seems a bit pricey to me.
Extra question, if I get swayed by smartphones (the Samsung Galaxy S2 does look rather good), is it possible to end my contract with 02 and start a new one? I don’t want to have to wait until the 12 months are up, since my current phone really is dying.
Wasn’t sure where I should post this, tbh. I can’t see there being a factual answer.
