Deadly Towers!!!
Actually, no. Don’t play that game, it is the worst ever.
If you are cool like me and have the PowerPad, Eggsplode is tons of fun.

The best baseball game without question is little league baseball
Can’t go wrong with a bowling video game.
Punch-out (either the Tyson version or the post-rape non-Tyson version) were both available on the NES. I know this, because I have played and beaten both versions within the last month.
Good news from the search! After spending the morning scouring pawn shops and leaving empty-handed, I stopped by Funcoland on the way home. As soon as I walked in I noticed that there was “fresh meat” in the wire cart that holds the NES games. I found Metroid, Castlevania, BaseWars, and Tecmo Super Bowl. All four only cost me about $30, so the day was not a complete waste.
Still searching for Dr. Mario, Tetris, and Bill Elliott’s NASCAR Challenge, but I may still have Tetris and NASCAR Challenge in a closet somewhere.
Thanks for the suggestions!
Wow, all these posts and still no vote for Lifeforce? Great shooter. Sure, it’s a Salamander knock-off, but it’s a very good one.
Tecmo Bowl is my generation’s electric football.
“When I was you age, we didn’t have fancy 3D graphics and all that jazz. We didn’t have 32 teams in the game. Hell, we didn’t even have 11 guys on the field! 9 players and 4 plays was just fine, damnit! And we didn’t have any fancy-pants controllers that vibrated, either. We had boxy-shaped things that hurt your hands and two buttons and we liked it that way!”
I’ll second Snake, Rattle and Roll
and I’ll also put in another vote for Battletoads. Especially if you have a second player to join in.
I remember having fun with the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game also.
How…how…HOW??? How can you beat Mike Tyson in the original Punch Out? That has been my white whale in the video game world forever. I started playing that when I was 7 and to this day, I cannot beat him. There is no pattern that I can pick up on like the rest of the fighters.
007-373-5963 …and then frustration ensues!
Tyson will knock you out if he connects with any punch in the first 1:30. You have to dodge every punch he throws, and you pretty much can’t hit back. After that, he telegraphs like the other fighters, and can be hit. I’ve personally never beat him, but I’ve seen it done. Never by a knockout, though, only by decision. I don’t know if it’s possible to beat Tyson by a knockout.
I’ve beaten him before. You get those stars for the SUPA DUPA punches that you can throw. Genseric is right, you have to avoid ALL his punches (and not throw any) for the first 1.30…after that, figure out his punching pattern. When you can dodge, they will load you up on those punch stars and when he misses a big punch you can light him up.
Shit, I remember that from the 7th grade but I can’t remember where I saved that file on the network last week, or what I called it.
I need help.
I need help.
No, you can land punches in the first 1:30, I have timed his upercut, and you can do the left-right combo in return. But the problem is predicting when he will let fly with that upercut…he tends to be erratic with it…I often find myself anticipating it, dodging only to come back and have him throw one, and then it is too late to move.
I always like puzzle ones and two of the best were Solomons Key and the Adventures of Lolo series I-III
I lost alot of sleep over those games
I also recommend Tecom Bowl, or its sequel: Tecmo Super Bowl.
North and South is a fun game too. Nothing like the South rising again in all its 8-bit glory.
Chip & Dale Rescue Rangers 2. I used to have it, but we lost it moving. It is now rare and I have seen it go for $50. I want it for $5.
Some others you might want to try:
Battle of Olympus
Metal Gear 2 - Snake’s Revenge
Super C (sequel to Contra)
Little Nemo - The Dream Master
Ultima: Exodus
Ultima: Quest of the Avatar
Most of my favorite games have been mentioned, but I’ll add Blaster Master (though I never have beaten this game, it seems to be insanely difficult). I also enjoyed Shadowgate, though it’s really more of a one-time through game. And lastly RC Pro-am racing, this game is still a lot of fun, especially with two players.
My NES claim to fame, I once played Mario 1 all the way through twice without warping. I quit after that since nothing else in the game changes after the second time through.
My NES claim to shame, I could never even get past King Hippo even though I’ve seen it done numerous times. I always get too excited when I actually manage to punch him in the belly and then get knocked out.
I almost threw up on myself as I read down and it took 12 (!!!) posts before Tecmo Bowl and more importantly Tecmo Super Bowl were mentioned. Greatest…Game…Ever.
I’d second a handful of other alredy mentioned. **Contra, Mega Man, Metal Gear, Tyson’s Punch Out.
I cried the day my NES system gave out and I couldn’t play Tecmo anymore. I still have all my games, I should shop for a NES system. Hell, I should dust off my N64 for that matter.
