We’re hiring some kick-ass DJs who ought to know their stuff enough to fill in 99% of the time, but I want to make sure that there is at least something for everyone to enjoy, musically, at the reception. Preferably, something to drag them away from the cake and booze and get out on the dance floor!
So here is the expected mix that I have to sort of coordinate (meaning make them happy without TOTALLY offending all the rest beyond repair):
[ul]
[li]Old people. My fiancé’s grandparents and the other members of that generation. Fairly religious and conservative.[/li][li]Mature adults. By this I mean people my parents’ age (she is in her mid-to-late '50s) who liked the music in the '50s and '60s and then fell out of the loop.[/li][li]People who are massively nostalgic about the '80s.[/li][li]People my age in general.[/li][li]Random southern people who like country music. [/li][li]Friends I know from goth dance clubs.[/li][li]Nerdy people, who also overlap with Goofy people, the type who like Weird Al or lounge-act covers of Baby Got Back…[/li][li]College kids (I’m in college, but I’m talking more about people in their early 20s) largely in the arts scene.[/li][li]Caribbean natives who like to salsa like nobody’s business.[/li][li]People whose primary music listening is jazz[/li][li]People whose primary music is “stuff you waltz/foxtrot/tango/etc to at dance lessons and events”[/li][li]At least a couple of people who will be ticked off if they can’t do any Irish traditional dancing.[/li][/ul]
So like I said, the DJs will do the vast majority of the work, but it would be good if I could hand them a list of “try to work these songs in at some point” (along with the alternate list that says things like “if you play the Macarena I will kill you”)
Anyone got any killer ideas?
(I know I come here a lot for this kind of thing–don’t get the wrong idea. It’s not like I don’t go elsewhere or ask my friends, or search on my own… it’s just that I’ve been a member of the SDMB community for something aproaching 12 years and it just comes naturally to ask you guys’ opinions!)
