Help me find a butter mold

Once upon a time, I recall seeing somewhere a butter mold that was shaped like a standard stick of butter (I think it imprinted “BUTTER” on the top, but other than that it was a regular, ordinary stick o’ butter). I’ve recently realized I’d have some use for such a thing (I’ve got a lot of homemade compound butters in the fridge), but dammit, I can’t find it anywhere. I’ve perused the local housewares shop, and I’ve bounced around a bunch of cooking sites and cookware stores on the internet.

The questions:

  1. Does such a thing exist, or did I hallucinate it?

  2. If yes, where the hell can I find one?

How bout eBay? A search on “butter mold” yielded 167 hits.

I’ve seen them in antique shop[pes], they look something like this. Probably not in much demand since very few consumers make their own butter in 1 pound blocks (or at all) any more.

1 pound blocks!?! Good Lord! I just want a regular ol’ 8 tbsp. stick o’ butter mold, same size as what you find in the Land O’ Lakes boxes at the grocer.

The eBay ones are pretty much the wooden antique types. The thing I’m thinking of is a cheap clear plastic number, definitely not an antique.

Butter molds in all sizes.

Mr. Moto: Thanks! That’s a lot closer to what I’m looking for – I’ll probably run with that if I can’t find a stick-shaped mold.

I’d still like to know if anyone’s ever seen a stick-shaped mold, though.

Actually butter is pressed into 1 pound blocks at the factory and then those blocks are cut lengthwise thrice to make 4 sticks. Then the four sticks are wrapped in waxed paper and reassembled into the shape of a 1 pound block and packaged in the familiar Land O’ Lakes box. Making the ¼ pound sticks just eliminates the cutting step, which I suppose is perfectly okay.

I usually buy the 1 pound blocks at the Costo, and then cust it into the more familiar sticks when I get home.

But Mr. Moto’s look nicer, with the facy designs on them.

Hm. I still coulda sworn I’d seen this thing. My mind must be going…

There are a couple of butter dishes here:

Could this be what you’re thinking of? I don’t see why it couldn’t be used as a mold instead, although you’d get a somewhat larger brick that way.

No, it was definitely a plastic stick o’ butter mold, designed to get you one stick of butter, no more, no less.

I’ll probably roll with one of the alternatives given here, but damn if I don’t remember seeing what I’m describing. Clearly, I have found my white whale. I must find this mold or die trying…

Hi,

I know this is a very old thread but i was excited enough when I found my butter stick mold that I wanted to share. I just googled butter stick mold and found mine on Etsy. I think there sold a bunch of other places too. Its made by Cannaware. I turn all my cannabutter into standard sticks with tablespoon marks and store it away in the container.
