If you haven’t played Half-Life you should. It’s the best FPS game there is, was, ever will be.
Well I don’t have any new recommendations to add, since Chrono Trigger and pretty much the entire Final Fantasy series have already been suggested.
What I do have is a copy of Final Fantasy VIII, tucked away in a corner of my computer desk with its manual. I don’t intend to play it again–do you want it? I can’t promise that it’ll work for you–it was pretty buggy, and you’ll need some patches, and maybe an old version of DirectX. Still, if you want it, drop me an email; I’ll send you the game and a copy of the patches I have.
Let me recommend you the most beautifull game ever created:
Star Con 2.-
It’s an old game. I believe it was released in 1995, but good games are like good wines, age actually improves them. Never mind the outdated graphics and the poor quality of the sound (although the music of that game ranks among the very best).-
The game relies on it’s story. It’s simply amazing. I won’t spoil it to you, but in my opinion, someone can create a Sci - FI franchise with it that would shame Star Trek (I mean more than it’s current writers).-
Your mission simply put is to explore the known Galaxie, meeting new races, fighting against your enemies (the combat system is actually pretty cool).
Suffice to say, that it is, at least for me, the best game ever made.
In case you can’t find the game Estilicon was talking about, I think he meant Star Control II.
Thanks Tentacle Monster. I meant Star Control II

I’m pretty sure at this point that I’m either going to get Lineage 2 or City of Heroes when they go live next week.
I scored a free copy of Lineage 2 the other day at EBGames and actually got it to run on my computer and I already like it quite a bit. Plus I’m visiting home next week and a friend is going to give me a 128mb video card he doesn’t use anymore so I’m fairly sure both of these games will run acceptably on my machine.
The problem with Lineage 2 is that I’m definitely going to drop whatever game I’m playing when World of Warcraft comes out and play that, and I don’t know if I want to go straight from one fantasy game to another, so I was thinking maybe City of Heroes.
The problem with City of Heroes is that I’ve already played Lineage 2 and I know I like it. What if I drop $50 + subscription fee on City of Heroes and it sucks?
What do you guys think?
Even though I didn’t like Morrowind, I’m thinking about giving it a second shot with the Game of the Year edition.
One of the biggest problems I had with it is that I almost immediately realized an exploit where I could make unlimited amounts of cash, and from that point on I couldn’t resist doing it and games aren’t fun when you cheat.
So I guess it’s down to City of Heroes, Lineage 2, or Morrowind GotY edition.
I’m also thinking about getting this so I can throw that peksy TV away. Has anyone used one of those?
I haven’t played Lineage 2, but I did play in the City of Heroes beta (and will be playing in the live game starting Sunday) and am playing in the World of Warcraft beta, and I played a lot of Morrowind.
First, City of Heroes. It’s nothing at all like WoW, which I hope you realize. Basically, CoH is a cooperative action game with RPG tendencies. I happen to think that’s a great idea. If your idea of fun is crafting and item acquisition, then you’re not likely to enjoy CoH. If, on the other hand, you enjoy patrolling the seedy streets of the city, rescuing old ladies from muggers, and then breaking up a gang war in a deserted warehouse, with a team of heroes at your side, then I think you may enjoy it.
Second, Morrowind. It’s one of my alltime favorite games. Even without a single mod installed, it’s a great game. And with the two expansions and a few select mods, it’s totally freaking awesome. You will want a better graphics card to appreciate the game, to be honest, but it’s playable on your current card.
I’m not sure what exploit you discovered – the only ones I know in-game are (a) the Creeper and (b) console commands, although since the game ships with the construction set you can give yourself a huge pile of gold and uberstuff in the starting room if you want. Yes, it’s possible to cheat, but it was possible to cheat in DOOM. I elect not to, since it’s more fun to play straight.
I would encourage you to go back and give it another shot. The Game of the Year edition is all of $30 at this point, and includes both expansions. And I strongly recommend some of the mods – Better Heads is essential, Life to Morrowind fixes an astonishing number of small dialogue and text bugs, Windowlights is simply beautiful, and Weathered Signs makes the signposts readable.
