This has been winding me up for a few days now. I’m pretty sure I own the album with this song on it, and I can remember parts of the lyrics to the song, but can’t remember the song title or artist name.
The song has a narrated part to it which talks about a young man who dies in a car crash, he was apparently racing another vehicle, and he was on his way home from his father’s store where he worked.
The song itself was about the tragedy of dieing young if I remember correctly.
I keep thinking it was a Flaming Lips song, but can’t find it on any lyrics list.
This is driving me crazy. I’m sure I have an album somewhere with the track I’m lookig for on it.
I should say the information about the crash is given in a female voice (iirc) whilst the singer ia male. And the female voice sounds like a Police officer discribing the incident.
Sorry to be such a wet blanket (I got nothin’ wrt what the song is), but in Tell Laura I Love Her, the kid is entered in a stock car race. In the OP’s song, it appears that the race is one of those impromptu street races that so often end up in tragedy and/or tragedy-related songs.
That said, every time I hear the music to TLILH, I find myself singing the line, “And no go out wit’ Mits Funai.”
I got nowhere with many google search attempts. I’m starting to think I missheard a key part of the lyrics, or an going mad.
The second possibility seems most likely to me. I’ll bounce this if I ever find the damn song. Thanks for trying to help guys.
