I’m trying to recommend this great book from my childhood to a friend, and I can’t find it. I was hoping maybe the massive power of the Dope could help.
I think the cover was an orange-brown, but it very well may not have been. It was paperback, of the stapled in the middle type. The book showed how to draw animals by drawing simple shapes and then connecting them and erasing the shapes inside. For example, drawing a horse using circles and connecting them like this example I threw together quickly in Illustrator: horse made of circles
I know it showed how to draw monkeys, horses, elephants, and more. It had a really straightforward title, like “How to Draw Animals” or something similar.
Ed Emberly kicks ass. He does a bunch of local appearances around here. My nephew has a bunch of personalized sketches that Ed did for him, and all of my books are signed with little personalized notes and drawings. I have a great picture of him holding my nephew on his lap, wearing my nephew’s sun hat. He’s like everyone’s grandpa.
No, this book showed how to draw more or less realistic looking* animals, not cartoony ones.
*realistic as far as what could be expected of a kid, that is.
That’s closer, but this book was aimed at younger kids, and the finished drawings were less detailed than that.
