Help me find this book...

I’ve been wracking my brain and the used book shops for any info on a book from my childhood. I’ve turned up nothing. Perhaps one of the TM can do better.

This is what I remember: It’s a juvenile science fiction story (i.e., for the 12 to 14 crowd); it involves a brother and a sister (twins, maybe?); their adventures revolve around some sort of intrigue (are they spies, PI’s, wealthy busybodies?); and I seem to recall more than one book, so perhaps it’s a series.

The only scene from the book that I specifically remember involved the brother applying a substance to his face that allowed him to remold his features (instant plastic surgery).

Not one of the classics of western literature, I’ll grant you, but I’d really like to know the source of my vague memories. Does any of this jog a random synapse out there?

Help!

Nothing jumps right out at me, but it may help to have a time frame. About how old is the book, or if you don’t know - when did you read it?

“In this life you must be oh so smart, or oh so pleasant. For years I was smart. I recommend pleasant.” -Elwood P. Dowd in “Harvey”

Good point…

I read the book around 1978-79. Couldn’t tell you how old (or recent) it was at that point.

Ah, the good old Fursly books. You’re obviously remembering the series of books about the Furslies. The eldest Fursly was named John and was the more responsible sorcerer who did indeed have a putty like mask substance. Then there were the irrascible twins, Mike and Michelle. THen there was the young and brave Freddy Fursly.

Actually, I just made all of that up. hahahahah

Those types books are a dime a dozen, but I, too, would like to remember and reread all those old books.

I sold my soul to Satan for a dollar. I got it in the mail.

I can’t think of anything, but I will tell you this. If you happen to think of the author’s name, or part of the title, you can then do a search at www.alibris.com, the best site for used and rare books.

Arghh! I read the book and have exactly as fragmentary a memory of it as you do. If I remember right, it wasn’t so much a putty as a formula that would let him remold his face.
The book had sort of Johnny Quest sort of feel to it, but there’s pretty much zero chance that I’ll be able to remember the title or author.

Not sure how much this will help, but I have a vague memory of one or more of Heinleins books for youngsters containing twins. You could check for descriptions of his stuff.

More info dredged from the detritus that fills my brain (and a sly attempt to move my desperate question back to the top)…

Thanks Sassy, but definitely not a Heinlein juvinile. Those I remember. I read Between Planets around the same time. Believe me, Heinlein was beter.

The Johnny Quest comparison isn’t far off, though Tom Swift, Jr. might be closer to the mark. I also seem to recall that there was some sort of huge corporation or research lab featured in the book that provided the hero siblings with the technological wizardry they used in the stories. Need a space ship? Well X-Labs (or whatever it was called) just happens to have one ready for you. Industrial Strength Face Molding Cream™? Whipped up a batch yesterday. I think the brother and sister may have even been heirs or owners of the corporation/lab.

Please help! Anyone?
