Help Me Get My Bro To Canada?

Mainly by helping me use the dang SDMB search engine, which appears to defy me at every turn. I’m pretty sure this has been discussed before, but dang if I can find it.

Spring is in the air and my pal wants to go live with his woman up in the Great White North. Unfortunately, he also has a DWI, and Canada doesn’t even want him walking across the bridge at Niagra Falls to use the clean bathrooms. A combination of circumstances prevents her from coming to him, so he’s got to get in there, legally.

Any stories, myths, rumors, and prior threads will be helpful.

Why doesn’t he fly up? Just needs a passport.

Transport options might be limited to bicycles and buses across the tundra, but that’s the price of true love

You need a passport for Canada? I thought passports weren’t required for Mexico and Canada.

Just come up with a friend. Dont ask, dont tell…
Whenever I go across the line, they just ask how long I’m going to be and where I am from. He can say he’s taking a vacation for a couple of weeks…shouldn’t have to much of a problem if he looks presentable, unless of course the border agent is on his/hers toes. Bring a birth certificate and licence for photo ID.

You are right, a passport isn’t necessary, but it can be helpful. It wouldn’t hurt to have it. It might not hurt to try a smaller border crossing as well if he gets the go around at Niagra.

Well i’ve crossed the border many times with lots of friends.Someone with a DWI shouldn’t have trouble( i never had trouble). If they even really check you.I’ve gone through where they didn’t even stop us , than where they have the drug dogs going through our stuff. One time a couple of my friends who have felonys against them were told they wouldn’t be allowed in NEXT time.

I’ve never heard of anyone being turned away at the border for a DUI. Hell, I’ve never even had a computer check run on me or anyone I’m travelling with, except once (when they suspected she was coming up to work), and I’ve been through the border enough times. What exactly did they say?

Check out http://www.canadainternational.gc.ca for Gov’t of Canada info for immigrants & visitors. Have him contact his consulate or the embassy.

Hell, if all else fails, have him marry her.
