It appeared in a sci-fi collection, one of those “best of the year” ones. I don’t remember the name of the collection or anything else in it. I do remember the name of the story (I think), “A Day in the Life”. It was about these 2 future city cops, following them around defusing bombs and other dangerous tasks. They were constantly arguing with each other - in a friendly way. At one point one of them got zapped by an illegal robot or something, and he’s lying there apparently dying. The other one’s bent over him saying “Don’t die George, the Bears will win” (something they’d been arguing about), whereupon the George sits up and says “I’m fine, I just wanted to hear you say the Bears would win”. Funny story.
That’s about all I can remember. If anyone can help me track down the author’s name I’d appreciate it.
