Got it in a sambar at my local Indian joint. I’ve only had this vegetable twice - both times from this same place - and haven’t seen it in any grocery store/supermarket. It is green, long and quite thin - say, a bit thinner than your pinky. It has a barky kind of texture to it and it is not much fun to eat because it doesn’t fully break down even after you and chew and chew it for ages. And no, I’m not talking about okra.
Lemongrass. You’re not supposed to eat it.
Sorry to hijack, but does anyone know of an ‘ID This Veggie’ site? I get organic veggies delivered and am often stumped (not to mention, clueless as to what to do with them). Only managed to identify garlic scapes after some creative googling (smells like onion garlic green curly round…)
Is this a whoosh? It’s not lemongrass.
Drumsticks? We called them murungukai in Sri Lanka. Long, green, skinny, and very fibrous. Wikipedia says it’s called moringa oleifera here and you can see a blurry pic halfway down.
I’ve had them in sambar and in vegetable curries.
here’s a better pic:

Er, not a whoosh. What made you think I was whooshing you?
If it’s not lemongrass, fine. But long, green, thin, barky, and hard to eat means lemongrass to me.
That’s what I was going to suggest as well. Hmmmm, stumped.
Bingo. Thankyou.
