Sigmund and the Sea Monsters was one of those Sid and Marty Krofft* shows with weird characters voiced by cartoon actors like Mel Blanc or Dawes Butler. There were a lot of shows like that from them and others in the 60s and 70s, like The Bugaloos, HR Pufnstuf, and Lidsville. Clearly inspired by psychedelic drug trips, they often had cartoons in the middle, or pop song breaks, in the style of The Monkees or Comedy/Variety Shows.
Yeah, I’ll pile on here. That pretty much had to be Sigmund and the Sea Monsters.
My favorite Kroft production was the Banana Splits. Though, at 7 years old when it first aired, I was probably right smack in their target demographic. I’m not sure I want to look at it with a critical eye today.
