Help me Identify this Book from my childhood

When I was a kid, I had this book. It was a largere book, maybe 9’ wide by 15 long (kind of like and RPG sourcebook sized) and hardcover. It was a guide to starship and fightercraft in some fictional universe. Each set of pages had a beutiful illustration of a starship in flight, or battle. Along with each ship each picture had an added part that explained something about the ship. Either when it was used, or how it came about. WHen reading it, it felt like your were supposed to know the history of the conflict the ships were used in. I somehow, in transitioning from adolesecnt to teen, ended up getting rid of the book, but I would now be interested in either locating a copy or finding out about the fictional worlds in it.

The conflict depicted in it seemed to be between Earth and either aliens of colonists in the Alpha Centauri system. Proxima Centauri was also mentioned. The book had ships in that would run the gamut of possible types, from luxury liners, to cargo ships, to miltary vessels, to missles, to some flaoting cities (I think)
I am hoping the teeming masses can help me identify this.

Thanks
(oh right, the time period I got this book was the early to mid 80’s, but I dont know how old the book might have been. Probably not more then a few years)

Whoops I forgot to subscribe so that I know when People reply

No answer to the question, I’m afraid, but just wanted to let you know that you can subscribe to a thread without posting in it. Look for the “Thread Tools” dropdown in the blue bar above the OP. You should see the option to Subscribe to this Thread. Click and voila!

Two possibilities come to mind:

  • Maybe it was a supplement to the RPG “Traveler” (published by Game Designers’ Workshop)? However, the mention of Alpha Centauri and Proxima Centauri sounds a little too specific, because “Traveler” was little more than a framework or formalism for a sci-fi universe, rather than coming with its own milieu.

  • Could it have come with the game “Alpha Omega”? This was a sci-fi battle boardgame (distinct from the current RPG of the same name) originally published by Battleline in the late '70s, and later picked up by Avalon Hill (in 1980 from what I read). I had the original edition, which had fairly cheap production value. I’m sure the later Avalon Hill edition had higher production values, and for all I know they might have published a companion book like you describe.

Actually, I think the OP of a thread is auto-subscribed to that thread.

From what I remember it seemed to discuss specific events and battles that had happened, so I don’t think it was part of any RPG. I looked at what I coulod just find online about “Alpha Omega” and it doesn’t look like it. Anyone else?

Was it a book put out by Omni magazine?

Were the illustrations similar to this?

Yes, none of those specifically, but Yeah similar

Maybe this or at least close?

Not that one, but the link to “CUstomers who bought this also bought” helped me find it
It is titled “Spacecraft : 2000 - 2100 AD Terran Trade Authority”
