I saw it on TV when I was living in England many years ago (Christmas 1976). It was American, B&W, made probably in the late '40s. The leading lady may have been Barbara Stanwyck or Greer Garson—someone of that type.
The one scene I remember well is when she’s met at the train station by the leading man. They settle into the back seat of this classic Buick (or whatever make it was) and chat about her journey as the car pulls away from the station and we see the typical back projection of it receding through the rear window. They’re both dressed warmly; he has a hat on (of course), and she’s wearing something with a fur-trimmed hood. The man might have had a neatly trimmed mustache (*tres **chic *in the 1940s). I believe they were spending the holidays in the countryside, maybe in New England or outstate New York.
I used to think this was Christmas in Connecticut, but after seeing that movie on TCM, I know it’s not. Any ideas?
