Hi anyone can help identify this pile of sawdust - as in what caused this? Where does it come from?
I found this mystery pile of sawdust near my bedside drawer which is made of wood. Initially I thought it was a piece of wood that fallen out but as I picked it up, realized that it was sandy like sawdust.
I attached a picture after I attempted to pick it up. Sorry about the quality.
Reason why I’m asking is because i found a similar pile a week ago near my front wooden door. It was the first time time so I thought nothing of it.
Any hypotheses why caused these little pile of sawdust? Is it droppings of some insect?
Thank u!!!
One of many species of wood-boring beetles, living in your nightstand.
Could be a lot of things based on the picture. If it’s sawdust as a result of bugs eating your bedside drawer you should find a hole in it somewhere. But you might have tracked it in from somewhere else whatever it is.
A friend of mine told me that he brought his exterminator over to look at a little pile of sawdust by an exterior door. He thought ants or termites must be eating their way into the bottom of the door. The exterminator pointed out that the door was made of metal and just scraping the wooden sill to produce the sawdust.
It’s just unusual that these 2 piles are in a clear area - near something wooden but not next to it.
I’m not sure how wood boring beetles work. Do they deposit sawdust a slight distance away from wood? Are these their droppings?
No they do not exit the wood to do poos. They live in their droppings…
yes it looks like borer poo.
Could be insect activity in your ceiling space and walls , is your ceiling cracked or holed ? Look for cracked areas, sagging ceiling, holes in the ceiling (where the borer has come out and decided to turn around and go back in … ) , look for the same dust hanging from cracks…sticking in spiders webs… and so on.
But the common borer does love the wood used to make furniture…
The term is Frass, and if you do an image search, you might be able to get a better idea what beetle is making it.
