Help me name my baby

So what name would you pick for a girl?

Marguerite
Amelia
Ramona
Bernadette
Isabella
Rowan
Camilla

Just, please…for the love of all that is holy, don’t pick a trendy name. No Brittanie or Tyffani or Kaitalin or Rylee or Kyilee or Bryannah. Please!

Jane.Mary. Anne:D Far more distinctive these days than the gratuitous “y” names (see QGG’s post for samples) . Other helpful hints as to what not to name your daughter:
[ul]
[li]Review the adult entertainment section of your local paper. Reject any name used by the escorts[/li][li]Geography names. Ceased to be cool the minute a Spice Girl did it.[/li][li]Names of soap opera characters or actors. Hell, no TV names at all. If you need to pinch a name, steal one from a book. [/li][/ul]

The most important thing to remember-name your adult daughter, not your baby girl. She’ll be a grown up most of her life.

I guess if you want you can have the name I was saving for my daughter. I’ve got two boy and that plenty of children for me. Her name was going to be Sonja Lucille

Iris or Corrine.

You can have those, because by the time I am of child bearing age, I will either have changed my mind, or your children will be grown up enough that there won’t be two little Irises running around.

Amy
Emilia
Tara
Genevieve
Ciara

Irishfella’s neices are called Livianna and Alessandra (Livi and MuMu usually). I think their names are adorable.

Tack Genevieve onto my list too, along with Hope. Love those names.

Carine (bias, that’s my name!)
Emma

Casey
Kayla

I like classic, traditional names like…
Katherine
Elizabeth
Sarah

But also ones like…
Michelle (Michele)
Rebekah (Rebecca)
Melissa
Kayla
Liana (Lianna)

Check out some of the baby name websites around. Very interesting. Also, I have a book (can’t find it or I’d give you the title, sorry) all about how people percieve names. For example, it lists the name, origin and general perception. Random example: Most people imagine Cassie to be a tall, red-headed woman who tends to be witty and seductive. Blah blah blah…makes for interesting conversation in boring situations.

How about…

Gila’s Commandments of Naming:
Try to strike a balance on popularity - go for something people have heard of, but that there probably won’t be three of in her kindergarten class. Avoid anything cutesy with your last name, or with any of her siblings’ names. Also try to avoid anything that lends itself to really embarrassing nicknames in second grade. Don’t spell it weirdly, or she’ll go through life correcting people just so that you could be more ‘creative’. Don’t give her anything that you can’t imagine on a CEO.

I’ll give my theoretical kids Hebrew names for religious reasons, but I’ve always really loved the name Julia.

If I had another girl my choices would be:

Josephine
Imogene
Petra
Eugenie
Elizabeth Bennett ( After Jane Austen…tho I haven’t really read the book as watched the DVD a million times. I’m so shallow.
Jane
Olivia

Veridy
Leora
Jubilee
Trinity
Michala
Rogue
Siryn
Cheyanne
Sierra
Haley
(When I have a daughter) Haydee Elizabeth
