Help me pick a gift for my soon-to-be wife

I am getting married soon. I have decided that I will get the new Mrs Zydecat a box for a wedding gift. I plan on putting a letter in the box each anniversary that will talk about the past 12 months… explain all of the things that I love about her and why she is so special to me (I’m not THAT romantic…I found the idea on the internet). Hopefully, there will be a whole pile of letters for us to look back on someday and read together when we both have blue hair. I’d make a box (I’m pretty handy) but I can’t right now. So I’m looking for boxes on ebay and these are some of the ones I’ve found. Can you help me choose which one to focus my bids on? I’m looking for a classic looking box. It can be new but it doesn’t have to be. Most of these are older. I think it is more romantic to get a box that is timeless. We can give it our own little piece of time and then maybe pass it on to someone else. Can you give me a couple of minutes and rank say, your top 3 favoirite boxes? Here are the links

I hope all of these links work. I know it’s a lot of work for you to cut and paste them all. Thanks for your help!

I think it’s a fabulous idea, no matter which box you use. I particularly liked the third link down though.

Before I even looked at your links, I thought of the beautiful handmade wooden boxes that I saw at a Renaissance Faire this weekend, but I went and looked at the website, and that vendor didn’t have a link. They had a more medern feel to them, although still timeless.

She’s going to love it no matter which box you pick.

It’s a cool idea. For what it’s worth, I love wooden boxes, and have several both antique and modern. I’ll say upfront that my personal taste leans towards geometrics and simplicity, rather than the more ornate. With that said, my favourites of the ones you listed are, in order:

  1. fourth from the bottom
  2. third from the bottom
  3. of the more ornate, the first listed

Good luck on your purchase and best wishes for a happy future with your wife.

I like these.

I agree with the first two that FilmGeek linked to. If she’s into florals, the last one is lovely, though not my style at all.

What a lovely idea.

I kinda sorta do something similiar. Every year for Valentines Day I buy one rose for each year we’ve been together. This year will be 8 roses.

What a great idea ( and who cares if you didn’t come up with it. It is personalized, sweet, warm and fuzzy.)

You could also hide gift cards in there to surprise her.
She should do a box for you.
It could be a great way to communicate. ( Or you could use hand puppets.)

Someday someone will explain the concept of giving a gift to your spouse to celebrate your wedding.

I gave the gift in advance. A multi-thousand dollar ring.

She gave me the gift of “I do.”

Granted, we don’t exchange gifts for X-mas or birthdays either. (Still not sure how I pulled that one off  ) And I’m the only one that can remember our anniversary without her mother calling to remind her.

I think you should go with the third from the top, the walnut box. It’s large enough to hold many letters of varying sizes and it looks special and well taken care of. Unless the box is something that one of you has a personal attachment to, I think it’s better to go with something that doesn’t look as used, that is uniquely hers.

Butler1850- I know what you mean about not buying each other gifts. I kind of feel the same way. But one of the reasons that I am marrying is that she treats me so well and is so generous to me as well as others. I want to treat her the same. I found this idea and it clicked with me as a sweet thing. The price is pretty low and it might be fun to look back on one day…maybe even when we’re pulling our hair out over each other…and remember. I wish I could pull off the birthday thing. I tried…she’s a Feb 29 but no luck.

Shirley Ujest- I hope that my fiance and I will each write an anniversary letter and store it for the future. I’m going to start the box with the first letter reviewing some of the best things of the last 12 months. That’s a good idea with the surprise cards though.

grayhairedmomma- My fiance and I both have similar tastes in early american and primitive decor. I think she would like some of these other boxes as well. But after I slept on it and rolled it over, I might go with #3 …or #6… or #8. Damn this is hard.

Thanks all!
