Help me pick a new flash drive

I’m looking to get a new flash drive.

I’ve got a flash drive now, but I found out that the casing leaves much to be desired. I dropped it on the sidewalk the other day, and the case split. I fixed it with crazy glue, and the drive works just fine, but I’d rather not risk my data like that again.

I’m looking for a flash drive that’ll hold at least 2 Gb of data and is as close to indestructible as possible. I’d like to know that my data will survive being dropped in the street or accidentally run through the wash (now and then, I forget to empty my pockets before I do my laundry.) Oh, also–the flash drive will be used on many different computers, so I’d like to be sure that the thing is as slim as possible, so that it’ll fit any USB port.

I’ve read various website reviews, but, apparently, what users say about their flash drives can be very different from what the company claims is true of their products.

So, what flash drives would you recommend for me?

Thanks for any help you could give me with this.

I’ve got one like this and although it is plastic, it seems very robust. It’s a bit more compact than most and you can’t lose the protective cover, because it’s on a swivel. They make another version of this product in red plastic, which I also have one of and it’s nowhere near as nice.

I’ve heard good things about USB drives going through the wash and working after it dries.

As for size any should work in any USB drive so that is not a issue.

If you plan to drop it on concrete I would suggest looking for one with a rubberized covering instead of plastic.

Thanks for your suggestions, guys.

After taking your words of wisdom into account, and reading some reviews, I decided to go with this.

Well, I can’t say that I plan to drop it on concrete. I don’t exactly look at my schedule and say, “Hey! I’ve got the 2:30-3:00 block open on Wednesday! I think I’ll go and drop my flash drive on concrete for a bit! Hoo, boy–I don’t know if I can stand the excitement!”

But I get what you’re saying, and the recommendation that I get a flash drive with a rubber cover, rather than a brittle plastic one, makes sense.
