I have been wanting to have a way to check my home and work email on the go, and have access to a few Web sites (like the SDMB!) while on the road. I don’t want paid Internet access through my phone; Wifi access should do the trick (I really, really like free Web access). I definitely don’t want a full-size notebook (I’m not gonna lug around a multi-pound weight that would also be a target for thieves). I also want a real keyboard - I tried the on-screen one on the iPod Touch and my fingers are too big for that. I actually could access Wifi through my PSP, but that’s an on screen keyboard like a phone keyboard - Yuck!
I am considering:
Nokia N810 - about iPhone sized, but with a pullout keyboard.
Sony myLo - similar to the N810, but supposedly inferior.
Netbooks - May be too big compared to the two above choices, but you might be able to convince me otherwise.
??? - Other options
I know there are other choices out there - if anyone has a recommendation of these or something else, let me hear the kudos and/or hatred. Thanks!
Yeah, your fingers are too big for the keys, but everyones fingers are too big for it. The typo correction is fantastic, you just have to type in the general areas of the keys and the software knows what you meant. I think the touch is perfect for what you need, and you get a kickass MP3 player to boot!
Any netbook should do the trick, and they’re sure to have a more usable keyboard than those phone-sized things. And pretty much all of them come with wi-fi.
Around here, the eeepc 4G (that’s the early model with the 7" screen and the 4 GB solid state drive) goes for about 170 euros. I’ve got one of those and they’re pretty good for basic internet access. I also recently got a samsung NP-NC10 for free with my wireless (GPRS/3G) internet subscription, and that has a decent 10" screen and a much larger hard drive in only a slightly larger package.
