Ok, so I waited in line (2 hours) for the iPhone. I’ve been playing around with it and I’m pretty impressed with it. Luckily, I have 3G in my house, as well as a number of other networks. What are some cool apps to have on the phone? I believe in cheap and useful over expensive and flashy. Though, I do value apps that are unique to the architecture of the iPhone itself, like Supermonkey ball. i also got Sudoku Classic (super cheap at $0.99) and Texas Hold’em (beautiful game looking game). Has anyone tried Enigmo or Bomberman Touch?
Download all of the free ones that’s what I did. (I’ve deleted a couple already though).
We all got a kick out of PhoneSaber and Midomi.
Pandora works excellently, even on the Edge network. I also really liked Urbanspoon’s “jackpot” interface. IGN.com reviews is something I’m really happy about as I never remember what’s good or not when I get to the store to buy a video game.
I haven’t paid for any yet as the ones I’ve got are tiding me over for now.
I’m sure Absolute has one he’d love to recommend to you.
I really like Yelp, Exposure, and Comic Touch. I think Comic Touch was the only one of those I paid for, but I love the photo effects.
Sketches is also way cool, but at $8, seemed a little pricey for what it is. Still, I’m happy I bought it.
I was really impressed by Pandora on my friend’s iPhone, but then I read that it’s only 64kb mono.
Another vote for Pandora. Mr. Athena came up with the great idea of sticking the iPhone into the iPod speakers and we listened to Pandora all Saturday evening. I dunno why I didn’t think of putting the iPhone in the speaker doc before; we use it all the time with the iPod. iGuess iMnotthatbright.
Who need radio anymore? Pandora rocks.
Shazam helps you identify music. A friend at work tried it out and says it works great.
Another vote for Shazam. Also, get it while you can – I’ve heard it’s only free for a little while.
Trism is an absolutely fantastic puzzle game (not free, though). Think Bejeweled on crack, taking advantage of the iPhone accelerometer.
The Apple Remote app is also very nice – it lets you control iTunes or an AppleTV from your phone. It only works if both the iPhone and the controlled device are on the same local network, unfortunately.
Morocco is free and I like to play Othello when I’m bored, win-win.
I enjoy the practical BoxOffice app-list currently playing movies, your local theatres, showtimes, and also tomato-meter scores from Rotten Tomatoes. I like going to the movies, so I have used that a couple times to see what’s looking good.
Is there a crossword app?
Shazam is my current fav right now, although you wouldn’t use it everyday, but it works amazingly well. I saw Wanted at the movies yesterday and wanted to know the name of the song as the credits rolled. Sure enough, Shazam figured it out in one try.
I am enjoying:
Shazam
Boxoffice
Vicinity (small cost)
Tap Tap Revenge
Phone Saber (okay, it’s just silly, but free!)
NY Times News
NetNewsWire
SpeechCloud (wish it actually dialed the phone, but a neat idea for voice dialing)
Pandora (wish it could play in the background)
Mobile News
Auora Feint (haven’t really had a chance to play it yet, looks awesome)
Tomatoes
ReQall
I’m an app addict!
I also have:
Bubblewrap (silly fun)
Dial Zero (connects you directly to a customer service agent for a bunch of companies - no phone tree)
iMaze
Iscopes (horoscopes - more silly, free fun)
Voicenotes (record 2 min messages - turns your phone into a DVR)
Wedict (web dictionary)
