It’s been something of a struggle the for last two years or so in the Stuffy household. After sinking all my money into starting a business; then losing a lot of our possesions in a fire; this past X-mas wasn’t so great. Now that I’m finally starting to make money, I’d like to do something really special. Now here’s the thing, my wife and kids are all native Californians but I have fond memories of white christmas’ being born in Michigan and all, so I was thinking of that as a goal. So what do you guys think?
I’ve been playing with the idea of renting something in the Lake Tahoe area but I’ve never done it before and have no idea of how expensive it would be (that’s why I’m asking now instead of November), so any ideas would be helpful.
When I think about snow in CA, I think of Tahoe, Big Bear/Lake Arrowhead, or Yosemite.
When we were kids, we would rent a cabin in Big Bear or Yosemite and play in the snow or ski for a few days. It was great fun for us, and only in hindsight do I notice that the accomodations weren’t exactly The Ahwanee.
It didn’t matter, we were kids and we had a great time.
You can rent something in just about any price range, but obviously the choice rentals will be very expensive. Check with local realtors about weekly rentals, you probably can’t rent for less time than that. Also, Xmas will be a “premium” rental time, which means expensive. In the Big Bear area, you can sometimes find bargains a little outside of “town” in places like Running Springs.
A lovely small town in NoCal is Twaine Harte. Cute, a little rustic, close to Dodge Ridge Ski Area (where I learned to ski when I was 4!).
Good luck! Sounds like you could use a nice trip!
