Help me remember the title of this bad movie.

Here’s what I remember about it…

I first saw it on late night TV back in the late 80’s. The plot is as follows: Some guy was arrested because he fit the description of criminal who had committed some crime. I don’t think it was murder, because a victim was there to “identify” him; perhaps it was rape, or battery, or attempted murder. Most of the scenes I remember are court room scenes. At first, we all think they have the wrong guy, due to an overwhelming lack of evidence. As the movie wears on, more and more things come to light that identify “our hero” as the criminal. The most damning one that I remember is that the criminal had a certain tooth chipped, and so does our guy. The guy maintains his innocence up until the bitter end, when we find out that he was telling the truth. The real criminal, who looked surprisingly like our guy, had been following the story in the media. He was delighted that someone was going to take the fall for his work, and had constructed one of those “I collect every related newspaper clipping I can and display them on the wall of my home”-type of things, thus sealing the deal that HE was in fact the one responsible.

Soooo, what’s this bad movie called?

Could it be “Prime Suspect” with Mike Farrell as the wrongfully accused?

Ugly

That wasn’t it. Thanks for the legwork, though. The lead was a real “famous for looking generic” guy from the 80’s… one who you’d recognize, but wouldn’t know from where.
