Help me replace my Rachmaninov cd

My beloved cd of Rachmaninov’s “Concerto No. 2 in C-minor” plus “Rhapsody on a Theme Of Paganini” played by Cecile Licad has been smooshed. I really like this particular recording, but I am willing to try a different pianist for diversity.

Of course, I’ll undoubtedly end up buying this cd again at some point, but tell me whose version of Rachmaninov’s most famous work would you buy first?

I’ve the same question, so I’ll just bump this one: Recommend good recordings for the 2nd Piano Concerto.

“The Second Piano Concerto . . . It shakes me! It quakes me! It makes me feel goose-pimply all over! I don’t know who I am–or where I am–or what I’m doing! Don’t stop–don’t stop–don’t ever stop!”

[Sorry, just having a Marilyn attack]

Sviatoslav Richter rocks. As a matter of fact, I’m not sure it’s humanly possible to do a better job than he did on that record.

You might try the RCA series “Recordings In Time” (not sure of the catalogue number). You can listen to Rachmaninov PLAYING Rachmaninov (it was recordedona recording piano).
I’ll try to dig up the exact catalogue number for you.

Rachmaninov plays Rachmaninov is here. They’re pretty old recordings, though, so don’t expect pristine high-fi sound.

Any other good recordings for the 2nd?

IMO, the best interpreter of Rachmaninoff is Ashkenazy, both as pianist and conductor.
