Help me save this recording

I have a tape of a live concert that a friend of mine who has no computer would like put onto CD. The recording quality of this is very poor with hiss and also the entire recording seems to be a higher pitch than normal for this artist. I have been able to remove the tape hiss but am left with songs in the wrong key. Does anyone know how I might drop an entire recording down a few keys? The male artist sounds like a female.

Moderators-This is a recording of some earlier work done by a band that no longer does these songs and the band has no problems with their tapes being traded. They are considered a local band.

Sounds like the tape was recorded at a different speed than your tape player is playing it. Many sound editors can change the speed for you. One popular PC shareware one is GoldWave. Using it, you would select effects/time warp/speed. You’ll have to convert the recording to .mp3 or .wav format first, of course. When you’re done, burn the CD with the modified file.

I’ve done this with a recording of an old-time radio program. The voices sounded a little munchkin-ish. I changed the speed to 97% of original and it sounded fine.

zgystardst, that would make sense as the songs seem to be faster than they normaly play them. I will have to look into the settings of my audio editor to see if I can change the speed if not I will look at GoldWave. It already is in WAV format so that won’t be an issue.
