Help me spce out a PC to run Adobe Premier and After Effects

EDIT: Ack! Title meant to say “spec out a PC”…

I need to build a PC for someone that is primarily meant to do heavy duty video processing.

This machine is meant to be a powerhouse for video processing although, that said, not insanely so (price still matters).

I am having a hard time determining where to focus though.

  • CPU? Lot of cores and fast? Dual core ok?
  • Video Card? An Nvidia CUDA card and if so which one? SLI? What is important here?
  • RAM? Lots and lots of it? Really fast RAM or more normal RAM?
  • Storage? Lots to be sure but is fast worth the money or just any-old hard drive?

This will be a Windows machine. Don’t bother pointing me to a Mac solution.

FWIW I am not looking for someone to give me a full-blown parts list.

More I am looking for a discussion on which parts are more important and should be focused on when making decisions on where money is best spent.
