Help me think of a name for a gardening project (that I intend to write up online)

What you are describing is the subject of one of my favorite books ever - every chapter was on a different plant the author grew (using left over coffee cans as pots). He got the usual avacados and potatoes to grow, but also coconuts, and even some success with mangos and papayas.

The title of the book, and perhaps the term you are looking for was After -Dinner Gardening.

I must not be the only person who liked the book, new copies sell on Amazon for $50 and they list collector’s copies. http://www.amazon.com/After-Dinner-Gardening-Book-Richard-Langer/dp/0898154502/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1266895773&sr=8-1 Here

I had an elderly neighbor (she was about the same age as my grandparents, so about 40 years older than me) who would save her seeds from one harvest to the next planting, and who would save the seeds from a bell pepper she’d bought in a grocery store. Sometimes she was disappointed, but more often she was successful in getting SOMETHING to grow. She grew up in the Depression, on a farm, and she was extremely smart. She lived across the street from my grandparents, and she and I were pretty good friends, from the time I was a little kid until she died.

She called this Depression Gardening. Maybe you could call yours Manic Gardening.

Oh, and I love your website. The projects are fascinating.

Crisis gardening?

Save it, plant it, grow it, eat it, save it.

Some great suggestions here folks - thanks - it’s a shame that I can only use one of them for the title (not decided yet) - some of the others will be good for section headings.

Or, since we’re not technically in a Depression, how about Recession Gardening?

Mangetout is in the UK - Depression is the apposite term.
