Help me think of famous “threesomes” that kids would understand. SFW only please.

length, width, height
X axis, Y axis, Z axis
sine, cosine, tangent
solid, liquid, gas
forward, reverse, stop (or neutral)
the three primary colors (??)
roll, yaw, pitch
blonde, brunette, redhead
bust/waist/hip measurement

The first time I heard the term Benelux was Arachnophobia (the scene where John Goodman is driving everybody to the barn). I was just a kid at the time and this being long before Google, I had no clue what it meant (sure, I could have looked it up in the encyclopedia but I would have had to figure out how to spell it first). Come to think of it, I’m pretty sure that this is the only time I have ever heard the term.

I grew up with a sea farer, I wouldn’t have come up with role, pitch, and yaw.

I think the fates and furies are at least as obscure as the names of the three magi (only two of which I can ever remember, though the one I forget varies from year to year)

Would these be possible answers for a multiple choice quiz? Then I’d use the furies, the triple play, and Pater, Filius and Spiritus Sanctus for the other answers.

The purpose was to list the three things and then have the kids tell me what they were or what they were known for. As it turned out, the older kids weren’t at church today. The oldest that participated was probably around 10 years old. They only knew the most obvious ones like the 3 bears and Snap Crackle and Pop.

This was for “Children’s Sermon” which took place during the normal church service so I had the congregation answer when the kids didn’t know the answers. No one recognized the “names” of the 3 wise men.

Thanks for the help Dopers.

No one recognized Balthazar? Huh.

If tricolon (as opposed to groups of three characters) is okay, then surely everyone knows I came, I saw, I conquered.

I hope you still feel it went okay despite these curveballs.

It was fine. I think the adults got a big kick out of hearing what the kids didn’t know. I also handed out lemon drops to all the kids when one of them got a right answer. And they ended up learning about epiphany so in the end, I’m calling it a success.

They’re three MCs, and they’re on the go.

Really? Wow. Maybe it was more important in Roman Catholic tradition, but how do you forget Balthasar, at the very least? He has one of the more memorable religious names, at least to me. (Although I know they’re not named in the Bible.)

Geez, I know the names of the 3 wise men (or “Three Kings of Orient”), and I’m Jewish.

The names come, IIRC, from a Greek document c. 500BCE.

That would be a pretty neat trick, you must admit… yeah, one gets too used to inserting the “B”.
