Help Me Translate A License Plate

Was behind a fellow for quite a while in traffic the other day whose license plate read: IMANRRU.

Anyway I translated it as:

IM = I’M

A = A

N= ?

R= ?

R = Are

U = You?

What is N & R? I’ve racked my brain. If it might help explain the owner’s political leanings, and throw some light on the plate, his late-70s/early-80s van was festooned with “Imagine Whirled Peas,” “Greenpeace” and “Boot Bush” style bumper stickers.

Thanks in advance

Sir Rhosis

“I’m an R. Are you?”

Now we just have to find out what an R is.

Was the driver a redhead?

I’d go with “an R” as well. potential R’s:

Republican
Redneck
Rightie
Racist
Robot
Reject
Rube
Rat
Rectum
Rodent
Rabbit
Rhinoceros
Reasonable person
Respectable person
Ranger
Rifleman
Runner
Right fielder
Right guard
Right tackle
Right linebacker
Riddle

“IMANR” might be a variation of “IMAM”. If that’s the case, he’s saying “I’m a leader, are you?”

Maybe it’s “I manner Russia”, whatever that means.

The word “an” would not go with a word beginning with the consanant “R.” At least I can’t think of words beginning with “R” that would fit. That’s why I thought it might be “I’m A” etc.

I first guessed N & R as “New Republican,” whatever that may mean, but that was just humor seeing as his other bumper stickers would lead me to believe he was not a Republican.

He was middle-aged, heavily bearded, with long dark/graying hair.

I assumed NR stood for something obvious that I was too dumb to get.

Sir Rhosis

Ooh, “I manure Russia”?

In Soviet Union, Russia manure YOU!

“I manners you.”

“I’m a nurse. You?”
Yeah, I got nuthin’…

Could it be “I man RRU”? As in: Reynolds and Reynolds University in Dayton, Ohio?

No, but it would go with the word “R”, which starts with a vowel sound (“arrr [sub]matey[/sub]”) “I’m an R.”

I feel I should duck into this one and mention that one of my friends has a totally nonsensical (but obviously vanity) license plate, explicitly because he gets a kick out of people trying to decipher it.

Dada-fans are interesting to have around.

Your friend might appreciate a plate I saw a few years ago, which remains my favorite to date:

DCY4THS

:slight_smile:

IMANRRU.

IM=I’m
A=a
NR=Winner
RU=Are you?

I’m a winner. Are you?

Best I got.

Remember that old game show where contestants had to quickly decipher license plates? I was never good at it back then, either.

I’m an arse. You?

Could have something to do with the university in Dayton, as mentioned above, as I live in Cincy. Can’t recall if the plate was Hamilton, Butler, Clermont, or any other nearby counties or some other, but it was an Ohio plate. Hell, I don’t even know what county Dayton is in – Franklin?

Thanks again, all.

Sir Rhosis

Doesn’t quite go with the bumper stickers, but…
