Help me try to find this style of music or artist (Mantra? Tantra? Kirtan?)

A friend played some music for me that I thought was fantastic. I asked her what it was – twice – but I’ve forgotten. I’d ask her again but I figured I’d bug you guys before I bug her again.

It definitely has an eastern feel, sort of Indian. It’s rhythmic, with a few eastern percussion instruments. Acoustic guitar is often prominent. There are vocals, in some language… Sanskrit, possibly? And I believe that the lyrics are all some sort of chakra chants or something. The vocals are often multilayered and pretty complex. And there’s a lot of repetition, usually the same phrase repeated for an entire song. There are at least two artists, of both genders, that perform this style.

In Pandora I’ve searched for keywords like chakra, tantric, mantra, kirtan, meditation, and things like that. I found a lot of nice music, but not what I’m looking for.

Any ideas?

Try searching on Bhangra.

That’s a little closer but that’s not it. What I’m thinking of is much less energetic and less electronic.

Bhajan? Or try something like Bhagavad Gita or another Vedic text.

I’m digging the Bhajan, but still not what I’m looking for. More rhythmic, more guitar, more repetition.

I think the key is that they use chakra chants or mantras or whatever. There’s definitely a relegious aspect, in a meditative way.

Found it. Paramahansa Yogananda has some good examples. And Jai Jagdeesh.
