If you’re up for a classic, there’s a free web-based version of Ultima IV: Quest of the Avatarwhich is (almost) completely accurate to the 1985 original.

Chit I remember that game.

I’m still trying to find a web based version of MULE and Car Wars The c64 emulators always make my computers sick.

Actually, let me add that Guild Wars, LOTRO, and DDO are all non-subscription now. You do have to buy the game itself, though, and at least for LOTRO and DDO, there are pay-to-play items, classes and races. Don’t know what Guild Wars’ model is now, since it’s been at least 3 years since I played it.

LOTRO is not free-to-play yet. The F2P release is scheduled for the fall. At the moment, a subscription is still required to play.

If you google auto duel, you can find a version that doesn’t require an emulator. I downloaded it a few years ago.

Kongregate has an Adventure and RPG category. Many of them are terrible, of course, but a lot of them are at least moderately entertaining, and a few border on brilliance. (I’m particularly fond of the Sonny games, but they’re not fantasy dungeon crawls–you know all those post-apocalyptic zombies you’ve blasted? How would you like to be in their shoes?)

It’s worth checking out.
