Help Me Watch L.A. Story

So, my L.A. Story DVD promises, on the box, to have a director’s commentary. Yet, I’ve been all over the menus for the DVD and can’t find it. Usually, it’s under special features, and you turn it on, and then play the movie, right? Not so, in this case. So, then I thought maybe it’s an easter egg feature. I looked up easter eggs for L.A. Story and there are plenty of them, but none of them activate the director’s commentary.

Help?

Hmm, puzzling. The imdb only lists Making-of, Stills, and Interviews, no Commentary. This page mentions one, but doesn’t give details. Some amazon reviewers echo your frustration.

Another page has similar comments.

Looks like you may be out of luck.

Thanks for the help!

Disappointing that it’s not there, but nice to know I’m not alone in my frustration.

If there’s a commentary on there it will just be on an alternate audio ‘track’.

So - the thing to do is just use the “Audio” or “Soundtrack” button on your remote when the movie is playing and see what’s available (sometimes this is done on an on-screen menu or whatever - but the option is ALWAYS there somewhere).

Usually you see something like

1: English
2: French
3: German
4: English

where 4 is likely to be the commentary…

The menus for language, commentary etc. are just ‘convienience’ features for setting this before play - there’s always the ‘manual’ option…

Should prove once-and-for-all whether it’s there or not…

I love the commentaries, and if the box promises something not on the disc, you should return it for a refund. This has happened to me twice. Both times a clerk assured me I just wasn’t looking in the right place, but neither clerk could find it when I challenged them to slap it into a player.

I have the Live Entertainment DVD from 1998, and it makes no such claim about a director’s commentary. Is there anything on the Artisan DVD that isn’t on the earlier one?

I have this DVD too, never found the commentary. Just chiming in with that.
