Help me with Haunted Mansion style decor (and share your Halloween stuff, too!)

I’m a big Halloween nerd- huge, in fact; though if I were to pick one thing I am possibly more geeked out about than Halloween, it’s Disneyland.

Every year, I would decorate my entire apartment for Halloween, but now that I have a giant house, I feel it’s necessary to really step up my game. So, I’d like to really Haunted Mansion out my house (a la Disneyland). There’s something just. . . spooky and fun while not being overly cutesie about the Haunted Mansion, so I want to go with that sort of look.

I’m making a bunch of neat things, like these, which I want to drape across my banister. I’m going to make the skulls out of styrofoam balls and a little clay. I also [URL=“http://i34.tinypic.com/20fatt4.jpg”]whipped this up in Photoshop and I’m going to frame it in a cheapy, distressed Walmart frame (that is the Shakespearean stanza from which they took the famous phrase about the HM ghosts). I want to make a giant styrofoam coffin, but I’m not sure if I’ll have time.

In the mean time, I’m looking for any higher resolution (like, would print in a clear 8 x10) of any of the Haunted Mansion pictures or graphics. I’d love: the Stretching Room portraits, the "family portraits", or even a copy of the vintage ride poster. Any help would be MUCH appreciated! I’ve been searching and am at a total loss.

BTW, a neat blog I came across:Haunted Mansion Northside is a freaking neat blog- a Disney Imagineer and what he does at his house in his spare time. Very cool.

And so this isn’t a total bust, I’d like to see everyone’s Halloween stuff. Or, if it isn’t out yet, tell me what you’re planning on doing. Like I said, I freaking love Halloween!

I can’t find anything like it online, but there are “Art on Demand” kiosks at both the World of Disney store in Downtown Disney and inside the Disneyana store on Main Street. These are touch-screen, art print-ordering computers, and ride art is available. I’m fairly certain the vintage ride poster was there, and the stretching room portraits might have been on the list, too.

The number for World of Disney is (714) 781-4000. You could try to get to the collectible/fine art department and ask if the print-on-demand art can be shipped.

Also, The Disney Gallery is reopening soon where the bank was on Main Street (the former location, above Pirates of the Caribbean, is now a guest suite).

Edit Update: Disneyland has a service called “DelivEars” where you can call (800) 362-4533 and order any souvenir available at the park. I don’t know any more details about it, though.

Whoa! That’s really cool. I knew I could get the stuff from the parks, but I don’t know if I’ll make it down there in the next few weeks. Thank you!

You can make day of the dead skulls out of all sorts of materials. I knew someone who used to make them from sculpey and paint them up, and string them around. Looked great.

A bit of diligent searching came up with this online store. The stretching room prints may not be available new at the park anymore, but for sale there for $115 for the set. They also have a set with the duelists from the dining hall.

I’m looking right now at “haunted portraits”, the lenticular pictures that show one thing from one angle, and a different thing from another. These from HauntedMemories.com look particularly nice, but ay, so expensive…

Have you been towww.doombuggies.com? I don’t think that they sell much that would be of use to you, but it is an amazing resource for Haunted Mansion stuff.

Those are so, SO neat- just more than I can spend at the moment. Boo! I’m definitely book marking for later- I have always wanted to turn my walk in closet into a Haunted Mansion room and the stretching pictures would be perfect for that!

I’m currently bidding on a few of these on Ebay- seems the guy who makes them sells them for muuuuuuuch cheaper via Ebay. Thank goodness! 5 hours and they shall be mine. . . mwhaahaha!

Love Doombuggies! That’s where I found out I can order the actual, honest to goodness wall paper that’s in the HM! So, SO cool.

Thought I’d share this link for paper crafts. I originally got it from another Doper.

Love, love, love Halloween!

I don’t have a photo, unfortunately, but one thing I remember my dad doing for a Halloween party one year that was really effective: he took his grandmother’s rocking chair and tied fishing line to it. He lit it with a red light, and rocked it gently back and forth. I knew the trick and it creeped the hell out of me.

You can buy the vintage 16x24 Haunted Mansion poster here for $19.95. I have the Monorail one listed on that page framed and hanging up in my living room.

I. . . could kiss you right now. Seriously. That is SO awesome!!! I have been searching for these forever.

Yeah, I searched for a long time to find the vintage looking posters. I actually ended up buying my Monorail one on Ebay because I couldn’t find any sites that carried it. I only found this link later. Maybe I’ll buy another one sometime…

A friend of mine built this Bat Creatureusing a real deer skeleton.

He’s built a lot of cool halloween stuff.

I know it’s not much help, but in the spirit of the thread.

Not been in the Haunted Mansion in years, but I know every haunted house has to have a creepy lab. If you take highlighters and pull out the little ink-soaked sponge, you can put it in a beaker full of water, put it under blacklight and voila! creepy, glowing water!

Send him some photos and some cash and this guy will paint YOUR house to look haunted.

Does anyone sell copies of “The Hands Resist Him” besides the painter’s site? I haven’t found any, and he wants a LOT for them…
