So I went to CompUSA today, got myself a decent (nVidia GForce MX 4000) graphics card to replace the old POS 8mb nVidia Vanta.
As per the instructions, I uninstall the Vanta, turn off the computer, remove the old graphics card, put in my shiny new graphics card, close the case, reconnect the monitor, and turn on the computer. I install the new drivers, restart the computer to finish installation and everything seems to be hunky-dory.
Until I try to do anything that involves scrolling or moving windows around. It LAGS. Horribly. I see it redraw the windows line by line. My old card did this much faster! Why? Why is it so slow? Did I miss something? Do I need to change some setting?
For the record, I’m running
2.01GHz AMD Athlon 64 3000+
Gigabyte GA-K8U motherboard
512mb RAM
Windows XP Pro.
Are you using the drivers that came with the card on a CD?
If so try getting the latest ones from www.nvidia.com. If the situation is the reverse, do the reverse, ie try the ones on the CD.
The other possibility is that your chipset drivers for your motherboard may need to be updated. If the old card was PCI and this one is AGP, that could be why things are so slow, because the AGP slot isnt set up properly.
When I installed this card and installed the drivers from the accompanyind disk, it was all over the place and the display turned through 90°, everythig reversed, had to go to the Nvidia site for updated drivers, works a charm now.
Almost the same system as yours.
