I need to get from the south ferry terminal in Manhattan to 54th st and 11th Ave, and I’m having difficulty figuring it out. I can get near 54th St with no problem, but all the subway routes I’ve been able to decipher leave me nowhere near 11th Ave. Last time I had to take a trip here, I figured out which subway to take, only to get there and find out that the x train was running on the y line, which is something I still don’t really comprehend and I had one heck of a time getting where I needed to go. Anyone from the city know the quickest subway route to that part of the city from the ferry? Or where I can at least get that information?
There is no subway line on the far west side. In addition to the subway map, get a bus map. Get near 54th St. on the subway then transfer to the crosstown bus. When using a Metrocard the transfer is free.
Well there’s no 11th Ave subway, unfortunately. The closest stop at 59th Street is the A, B, C or D or #1 train which gets you to 59th and 8th Ave. You’ll still have to walk three blocks west or take a crosstown bus. Probably the easiest route is to take the #1 all the way from South Ferry to 59th Street. Then go to 57th Street and take the M57 bus west to 11th Ave/West End.
Can you say, “West Side Stadium, bad idea”?
Oops, sorry, this is GQ. I’ll try to behave.
thanks…the problem with the MTA map on their website is it tells you what street the trains stop at, but not the avenue. I’ll look into those other options.
If you click on any station on the map, it will tell you what lines stop at that station. You can then click on a line to get a list of all the stations which include the cross-streets and connecting buses.
I suggest you skip the bus and walk the three blocks. The buses can take longer than the time it takes to walk. This is just my personal preference and habit.
11th ave is kind of far out there, so its quite a bit of walking–but
i would take the 1 train form south ferry to 50th st, then get out and walk west toward 11th ave
it will be a good 15 minute walk --but for sure the fastest and easiest way to do it
Try HopStop.com. You just put in any 2 addresses and the site will tell you how to get from one to the other via subway and/or other means.
