I think I need some help with my upcoming trip to Venice… I have a few questions,
Is the best way to get to airport marco polo by the cooporativa san marco boat? It says it takes about an hour… our flight is at 8:45 AM, so we need to leave by about 5:30 AM, what is their schedule? do they run that early?
Is there a better way to get there that early in the morning?
According to the Alilaguna timetable, the Red line (boat service running from various points in Venice to the airport) begins running (hourly) at 4:20 am from the Zattere stop. So the earliest time you can get to the airport from Venice is 5:45 am–which should leave you with plenty of time to check in.
The ATVO busses begin running at 5:00 am from the Piazzale Roma (the car park near the train station. ) According to their timetable, that’s a 20-minute ride to the airport–again, plenty of time to check in. Make sure you get an ATVO bus, though, and not a normal city bus (ACTV)–unless you’re carrying very little luggage and/or are trying to make it a super-cheap vacation.
If I’m not mistaken, the Cooperativa San Marco boat that you mention is the water taxi service. I believe you can hire one of these at any time of the day or night, but they’re quite expensive. Your hotel would probably be happy to call one up for you if you choose this option.
They also have land taxis that leave from the Piazzale Roma, which are also available 24 hours a day (and are significantly cheaper than the water taxis, though not as cheap as the Alilaguna boat).
All in all, I’d recommend an Alilaguna boat–not too expensive, but much more convenient than lugging your bags to the P.zale Roma to catch a bus.
This all depends on where your hotel is located in Venice, of course.
